As the Taranaki Peer Support Worker at RainbowYOUTH, you are responsible for providing on-the-ground peer support for young people and their whānau accessing RainbowYOUTH’s services and being able to connect them to youth services in the region.

The Taranaki Peer Support Worker will have a solid understanding of the needs of queer, gender diverse, takatāpui and intersex young people accessing our services. They will ensure requests for support are met or referred as appropriate, and will ensure consistent delivery of 1:1 peer support.

As the Taranaki Peer Support Worker for RainbowYOUTH you will also provide on-the-ground support and growth of peer based youth groups, connection to youth services in your area, and building a robust referral process.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Previous experience or understanding of youth support work (including social work or other care work)

  • Awareness of the needs of gender diverse, queer and intersex communities

  • Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to self-manage and show initiative in your work

  • Strong time management and self-motivation

  • Lived experience as a queer, gender diverse, takatāpui or intersex person

  • Full driver's licence is preferred but not necessary
