What is the Executive Board?
A group of rainbow* identified people who are responsible for governing RY. The function of the Board is to collectively make sure that the organisation is doing the work we set out to do, decide on the strategic direction, and uphold the organisational values.
Made up of 12 people in total, the RY board is collectively responsible and accountable for ensuring and monitoring that the organisation is performing well legally, financially, and ethically.
* “Rainbow” is used in our constitution as an umbrella term to describe people whose sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics differ from majority, binary norms. This includes people who identify with terms like takatāpui, lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, transgender, queer, non-binary or fa’afafine, as well as people who don’t use specific words for their identity, people whose identity changes over time, and people who are in the process of understanding their own identity and may not have ‘come out’ to themselves or others.

Please also read over our 2025-2028 strategy here.
All completed applications will be reviewed by an independent panel to ensure that applicants are suitable for election to the board. We do this to ensure that the integrity and democratic obligations of our organisation are upheld.
An important note: Tuakana and teina roles are grounded in te ao Māori, focusing on ensuring that rangatahi are supported in developing their governance skills while in these positions. People of all ages are able to apply for any officeholding role on the board, with four general roles reserved exclusively for rangatahi aged 16-27.
While rangatahi are encouraged to apply for officeholder roles, we also recognise the value of inviting those with different skill sets and experiences, including those outside that age range to stand as well.
Applications close at 11:59pm on Friday 27th June. Nominations from the floor will not be accepted.
We would like to extend warm gratitude to Kaiarn (Treasurer), Quack (Co-Chair), Te Waimarie (General Board Member), Taine (General Board Member), and Hariata (General Board Member) for their commitment and dedication to the board, as their term expires at the AGM.
