What is the Executive Board?
A group who are rainbow identified and aged 16 to 27, responsible for governing RY.
The function of the Board is to collectively make sure that the organisation is doing the work we set out to do, decide on the strategic direction, and uphold the organisational values.
Made up of 8 people in total, the RY board is collectively responsible and accountable for ensuring and monitoring that the organisation is performing well legally, financially, and ethically.
What is the Criteria?
Since we are a youth-run, youth-led organisation, the main strength/skill we’re looking for is someone who is passionate and committed to RainbowYOUTH’s kaupapa, and has the time and energy to commit to meetings. Some of our board members are/have been lawyers, students, community leaders, etc - whatever it is you’re interested in, we’re confident this would be a helpful skill for the organisation!
You will need to be:
Anybody who identifies as LGBTQIA+, Takatāpui or MVPFAFF+
Aged 16-27
Anywhere in Aotearoa - You will be able to attend board meetings via Zoom, and any travel required as a board member will be paid for by RainbowYOUTH!
What We're Looking For:
Community Advocates: Passionate about the LGBTQIA+, Takatāpui, and MVPFAFF communities.
Innovative Thinkers: Eager to bring new ideas and perspectives on community needs and organisational improvements.
Skill Sets: Lived experience and especially those with a background or interest in legal, HR, governance, and finance.

Personal Growth: Enhance your resume and professional development as well as uplifting your community.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate: Work with board members to strategise and implement community-focused initiatives. If interested, you can also join RY’s activities e.g. recruiting new staff, working groups, attend events etc
Advocate: Represent and advocate for the needs and interests of the rainbow community.
Contribute: Offer your expertise, meeting once a month on a weekday evening (6PM), for around 2-3 hours discussing our organisational goals.

To be eligible to be a Officer of Rainbow Youth Incorporated, under the Charities Act you must not be:
an undischarged bankrupt
under the age of 16 years
convicted of a crime involving dishonesty (section 2(1) of the Crimes Act 1961) and sentenced within the last 7 years
prohibited from being a director or promoter of, or being concerned or taking part in the management of, an incorporated or unincorporated body under the Companies Act 1993, the Securities Act 1978, the Securities Markets Act 1988, or the Takeovers Act 1993
disqualified by the Charities Registration Board under section 31(4) of the Charities Act 2005
subject to a property order made under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988, or have their property managed by a trustee corporation under section 32 of that Act (this relates to people who are not fully able to manage their affairs)
a body corporate that is being wound up, is in liquidation or receivership, or is subject to statutory management under the Corporations (Investigation and Management) Act 1989
disqualified from being an officer under the rules of their charity
